</p><p>Sie bildet den Verwaltungssitz des <a href="Baramulla_(Distrikt)" title="Baramulla (Distrikt)">gleichnamigen Distrikts</a>. Beim Zensus 2011 lag die Einwohnerzahl bei 58.053, mit Vororten bei 71.434.
</p><p>Die Stadt Baramulla liegt im nordwestlichen Teil des <a href="Kaschmirtal" class="mw-redirect" title="Kaschmirtal">Kaschmirtals</a> am Flussufer des <a href="Jhelam_(Fluss)" title="Jhelam (Fluss)">Jhelam</a> auf einer Höhe von <span style="border-width:0px; padding:0px; margin:0px;">1586 <abbr title="Höhe über dem Meeresspiegel">m</abbr></span>. Westlich von Baramulla erhebt sich die Gebirgskamm des <a href="Pir_Panjal" title="Pir Panjal">Pir Panjal</a>. Zur 45 km ostsüdöstlich von Baramulla gelegenen Provinzhauptstadt <a href="Srinagar" title="Srinagar">Srinagar</a> führt neben dem <a href="National_Highway_1A" title="National Highway 1A">National Highway 1A</a> auch eine Eisenbahnlinie.
